GOLF - at Nampont (see below), Le Touquet and Hardelot.

MONTRIEUL

is a walled, medieval town with pretty cobbled streets, a citadel and cathedral. It offers beautiful walks, regular exhibitions, fairs etc. and has a market every Saturday morning in the town square. There are a large number of good restaurant at reasonable prices (eg. Le Darnetal approx £25. per head all inc.)

BOULOGNE

is the largest fishing port in France and the whole region is famous for its excellent seafood.

LE TOUQUET

(25mins) is a fashionable seaside resort with plenty of small boutiques, lots of activities and is much favoured by Parisiens. It is set on a coast of large, white sandy beaches and sand dunes which make up the 'Cote d'Opale' (so called because of the lovely opal coloured sea and skies on this part of the coast, which catches the Gulf Stream). It has a number of famous golf courses and a vibrant night life. For those who prefer less developed beaches, there are several to be found both North and south of Le touquet.

RESTAURANTS

- abundant in Montrieul and Le touquet, there are two very highly recommended: le Grenouillere and the Chateau de Montrieul, (expensive!) there are also many other excellent restaurants in the vicinity.

LE TOUQUET

- heated indoor and outdoor (in summer) warter centre.

BAGATELLE - Between Le Touquet and Berck, is a theme park of some 45 sq. km.

ORNITHOLOGICAL PARK

AND BIRD SANCTUARY

- at Marquenterre (www.marcanterra.fr), on the Somme (www.somme-tourisme.com) estuary where there are many migratory birds.

ANTIQUES

- in Montrieul and Sempy with occasional fairs in other towns.

TROUT FISHING

- on the local rivers and lakes of the Authie (100 meters) Canche and Coarse.

HISTORY

(www.historial.org) the battlefields of Agincourt and Crecy are close by, with many other places of interest related to the First World War, such as Vimy Ridge, where there are well preserved trenches and tunnels.

Nampont is in a conservation area and it is excellent for walking and cycling, there are stables nearby (Inxent) for horseriding.
